
Darryll Patterson, MD, an MSU alumnus, received his medical degree from Wayne State University. He traveled south to complete his residency training in Primary Care Internal Medicine at Emory University Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. He joined the MSU faculty in 2001 and in his first year was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award by Ingham Regional Medical Center - a feat he repeated in 2007. He has completed the prestigious OMERAD Faculty Development Program for medical educators and currently serves as the Director of the Sparrow Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency Training Clinic. Dr. Patterson is the course coordinator for the Biostatistics and Epidemiology class at MSU-COM and is a Fellow in the Walter and Pauline Adams Academy for Instructional Excellence and Innovation.
Richard Thiede, MD, earned his bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University in Indiana and attended Medical School at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. He is a certified geriatrician and, before joining MSU Adult Medicine, ran a successful solo practice for nearly 25 years in Mason, Michigan. He is the creator and director of the new Geriatrics curriculum for internal medicine residents and currently serves as the clinical director for the MSU Adult Medicine practice.
Elena Coppola, DO is a graduate of the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine and joined the MSUCOM faculty upon completion of her Osteopathic Internal Medicine Residency in July 2010. Dr. Coppola has a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Wayne State University and practiced as a P.A. for three years prior to entering MSUCOM in 2003.
David Wenkert, MD, PhD, completed an internal medicine residency at Loyola University in Illinois followed by an Endocrinology and Metabolism Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland. He shares a joint appointment with the Michigan State University College of Natural Science Department of Physiology and the MSU College of Osteopathic Medicine's Department of Internal Medicine. In 2009, Dr. Wenkert was awrded Diplomate status in Endocrinology, Diabetes, & Metabolism by the American Board of Internal Medicine through the year 2019.
